MC Lyte是纽约地下嘻哈圈中的又一个大姐大，不仅是因为她出道早，更重要的是她的音乐保证了她的实力。生于布鲁克林也长在布鲁克林，MC Lyte从十二岁开始就自己写旋律来哼些歌儿来唱，并且于First Priority公司发行了她的第一首单曲作品《I Cram to Understand U》。随后MC Lyte便正式入住First Priority，并发行了包括首张大碟《Lyte as a Rock》在内的前四张个人专辑。1996年，MC Lyte来到了主流厂牌华纳的收购分厂EastWest发片，并且开始尝试比较流行的音乐风格，这点从唱片的封套设计中就能看出。之前的四张专辑的设计有着明显的Old School和地下风格，而在EastWest发表的第一张专辑就成了主流艺人式的大头明星照，简直就是R&B女星的装束。[/color]
