acoustic musings of four main players...Tim Mcphee (The Instant),

involved. * With the production of indie impresario, Wayne Connolly,
ten self-recorded tracks take their place on the Bowery. IF you can
imagine a modern style cruel sea where pop songs and instrumentals
were mixed to perfect effect. The album includes the single "Same
Suburb, Different Park" which has been getting a flogging via Zan
Rowe at JJJ and lots if play on FBI and RRR as well. * Firekites
have supported Bill Callahan, Iron & wine and The Sea and Cake in
the last couple of months and are playing the Spunk showcase shows
in April before doing their own headline tour in May. * Firekites
have reviews coming up in mess and noise and rolling stone and a
feature in Yen magazine amongst others. Be prepared to fall in love
with this record, it really is something special.

A little more than a year after announcing that his influential post-hardcore
outfit Boysetsfire would be calling it quits, frontman Nathan Gray announced
that he was forming a new band. But while initial plans for the Casting Out were
for a low-key, less frenetic affair, the lineup quickly grew to five members and
the energy rapidly increased. "We've been around for nearly two years now, and
we did our second European tour in September and October," says Gray.
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Aside from being the new project born from the ashes of
Boysetsfire (pun very much intended), the Casting Out play an infectious brand
of '90s-inspired rock in the vein of Jawbreaker and Samiam. "We write catchy,
melodic songs that get stuck in your head," says Gray. "Like any band, we feel
people should listen to our music because we like it and think others will,

Noel Gallagher and Mike Skinner have already show allegiance
to The Rifles in the recent past and sell-out shows at
home-turf venues such as London抯 Forum and Astoria have shown
that the quartet have drawn a wider devoted crowd in their
four years together. Hell, even Paul Weller has shown his
support by joining them onstage for a rendition of Eton
Rifles.
For first album No Love Lost the band paired with Lightning
Seed Ian Broudie but second time around, for next album The
Great Escape, have opted for David McCracken, known for
album抯 such as Music Of The Spheres with Ian Brown.
Our tune today is the title track which lulls you in with a
simplistic two-note verse chronicling the mundanity of life
(including the almost unforgivable couplet: 揼o put your last
five pounds on the lottery/if you抮e not in it to win it, then
you won抰 receive?, before bursting into a euphoric
strive-for-more chorus which gives more uplift than Weller抯
hairgel.

first names of its members, the Do (that is to say, Dan
Levy and Olivia B. Merilahtin) were a "multi-genred" pop
group influenced by rock (Beatles, Björk, etc.) and jazz
